There are 6+ mix analysis tools on the market right now. They all do the same thing: you upload a track, they give you a score, and they tell you it's "good" or "needs work."
That's not analysis. That's a fortune cookie.
A score without specific, actionable fixes is entertainment, not analysis. It's like a doctor saying "you're a 72/100 on health" and walking out of the room. What does that mean? What do you do about it? Which metric is the problem?
Most tools break down like this:
A useful mix analysis tool does three things:
Most tools stop at step 1. Some get to step 2 with vague suggestions. Almost none do step 3.
Here's something most tools won't tell you: there is no universal "good mix" standard. A good EDM mix looks different from a good jazz mix. A good metal mix has different frequency balance than a good folk mix.
When a tool says "your mix scored 72/100" without knowing what genre you're working in, that score is meaningless. A 72 might be great for ambient and terrible for trap. Genre-specific reference data is the only way to get a score that actually means something.
Most "free" mix analysis tools aren't free. They give you a preview — a blurred spectrogram, a partial score, or a "sign up to see your full results" paywall. By the time you've uploaded your track, you're invested, and the tool has your file.
A genuinely free tool should:
I'm a multi-platinum producer. I've mixed for 15 years. I built MixDiagnose because I was frustrated with every tool on the market. Here's what it does differently:
If a mix analysis tool gives you a score but doesn't tell you what to do about it, it's not helping you. It's giving you anxiety. The point of analysis isn't to judge your mix — it's to give you a checklist of specific, actionable fixes that will make it better.
If your current tool says "your mix is muddy" but doesn't say "cut 3 dB at 350 Hz on your mix bus," it's not analysis. It's a horoscope.
Stop paying for tools that entertain you and start using tools that teach you.
Free. No signup. Specific fixes. Not a horoscope.
